The Science, Philosophy and Religion of Spiritualism
1. What is Spiritualism?
Spiritualism is a Religion, Philosophy and Science. We have a National Association, state associations, churches, camps, an ordained ministry as well as certified mediums and commissioned healers.
2. What is a Spiritualist?
The primary objective of Spiritualism is to prove the continuity of life and the survival of the individual human personality after the change called death. A Spiritualist is one who believes, as the basis of his/her religion, in the communication between this and the spirit world by means of mediumship. Character and conduct are developed in accordance with the highest teachings derived from such communication.
3. What is a Medium? A Medium is a highly sensitive and trained individual who can and does communicate with those in spirit. They become the agents through which communication is achieved.
4. What is the benefit of Spirit Communication?
There are realms of existence that are invisible to us because they function at a different rate of vibration and in a different manner from earth. Spirit communication removes the fear of death by proving that there is no death of the person, just the physical body. Transitioning is merely stepping from a lower state of vibrational existence to one that is higher. Whenever there is life there is spirit and wherever there is spirit there is life, the spark of divinity in us all. What makes Spiritualism so unique is the absolute scientific evidence of survival after so-called death that is proven through our mediums.
5. Can a Spiritualist accept the Teachings of Jesus?
Yes. We see Jesus as a Master Teacher/Healer. Jesus is not our savior since we need no savior for our growth except ourselves. A belief in Spiritualism does not conflict with the teachings ascribed to Jesus.
6. Do we believe in “Good and Evil” Spirits?
We believe there are both intelligent and unenlightened spirits. No being is naturally “bad”. Leaving the physical body does not change the condition of the spirit or the personality of the individual. To progress to higher and better conditions the spirit must want to, just as we grow and progress here on earth.
7. Do you believe in Hell?
Heaven and Hell are not actual places, but rather a state of mind. We make our own Heaven and Hell even now as we live our daily lives, attracting to ourselves what we give out (part of Natural Law or God’s Universal Laws.) We do not believe in punishment, but we know that all actions have direct results. The choice is ours.
8. Do you believe in “Vicarious Atonement”?
We believe that we are each responsible for our own thoughts and actions and we reap the rewards or pay the penalty of the here and hererafter. When we acknowledge our thoughts and actions and take responsibility for them we work on our own salvation and enhance our own spiritual growth.
9. Will such teaching encourage selfishness and crime?
Exactly the opposite. When you know beyond possible doubt, that you cannot escape by “death” from the consequences of your acts, you feel much more disposed to avoid deeds that will injure yourself as well as others.
10. Will your teachings affect our political and social life?
They will invariably revolutionize and purify it for the reasons given above. We aim to build up, not tear down. Under our philosophy, by sure mental and spiritual growth, development of improper political and social conditions will be gradually righted, requiring no campaign of destruction first.
